1. legitimacy

One of the most important things in the tour is safety. we want everyone feel comfortable with being straightforward with issues that may compromise our tour. Due to the radical nature of the book we are promoting, the workshops we will be providing, and the general liberation we will hopefully be enabling, we find it of the utmost importance that the authorities have no reason to nab us. As the saying goes: "You got to obey the small rules to break the big ones," and that really applies to this tour. Though we hate to at all limit peoples' participation in the tour, but we learned a great lesson from the crimethinc gathering in the summer of 04. And that is: the pigs will arrest you for whatever they can to prevent you from demonstrating the truly radical and threatening. That said, it should be mentioned that we don't disagree with smaller crimes, rather, we wish to create a safe environment for the people hosting us, learning from us, and touring with us. Unfortunately, this means we will not be taking anyone who is "on the run" as a minor, or a fugitive of the law. Minors are welcome on the tour, so long as they have permission from their legal guardians to do so, this will prevent any runaway-reports, which will cause police involvement. Also, incase said runaways didn't know; it is a felony for legal adults to harbor minors across state lines without parental permission, and another felony for housing a runaway minor. This would endanger every organizer we stay with, whether or not they are willing to take the risk. Hopefully, this is a reasonable thing to ask of those people the government refuses to acknowledge as adults. Whether or not they come with us is our business, however, we encourage them to go on tours of their own, where the risk/responsibility is completely held by the individual. Fugitives of the law are asked to embark on their own journeys for similar reasons. If you are wanted only statewide, we ask that you find your own transportation (hitching, trainhopping, find a ride from another, unaffiliated group) to the next safe scheduled performance. It hurts us so much to draw these boundaries and we hope that one day we won’t have to. For now, there are plenty of other actions and tours that can be organized or have already been planned in which the above-mentioned people can participate. Actions that won't be totally paralyzed by state repression should illegal activities be present.

2. fun-loving attitude, willingness to perform.

Because space in the vehicles will be limited, (12 cubic feet of space will be taken up by the books alone) we ask that everyone coming along actually participate in the presentations. Its important that we don't ask more then we need to from the local organizers to make things as easy as we can for them, which means sleeping space, food, and transportation space will be available for people participating in the workshops, book-readings and skits that will be going on.

3. desire to actually educate people

If you plan on coming along on this tour to smash shit and alienate people, then perhaps another group would be best for you. We have no problem with violent tactics, but the primary purpose of this tour will be to inspire people to think for themselves, and feel armed with direct action tactics. A desire to actually inform and share the knowledge presented in Recipes for Disaster should be present in all the saboteurs who ride with the tour.If after reading this unfortunate list of pre-requisites you feel like you would be a great addition to the tour cast and crew, than please by all means get ahold of us via email. UPDATE
Since all of this, we have had an explosive turn-out as far as saboteurs/participants go. This tells us two things. Firstly, there are people interested in sharing information and helping people make changes and participate in their surroundings, rather than simply consuming their surroundings. This suggests to us all that we (as a culture of resistance) need to embark on more, similar adventures such as the sabatour. Secondly, there is no way we will be able to accomadate everyone interested with rides and gas money. So, here is our proposed solution: from now on those interested in coming along need to arrange their own transportation. If there is extra space in one of the vehicles, we will be sure to relay the info to people who have no ride. We're both saddened and inspired by this situation we're in, we hope you all can understand and find ways around the obstacles presented.
