Razing Capital:
the masters tools

In order for this tour work like we've planned (nothing ever does) we must not have to worry about 'breaking even' on the books we sell, give away or trade to people. The only way to insure this freedom is to raise enough money to purchase all the books we need before we leave for the tour. With an approximate price-tag of $2,300 we are working our hands to the bone to make this dream into the reality we desire. Although, we have raised only a small portion of the money, we remain optimistic about our ability to reach our goal by April. The only way we can reach our goal is with the support of the radical community. Consider this a pathetic plea for donations. We think it is important to make our projects available to people who could otherwise not afford to read radical literature. We hope to donate a copy of Recipes for Disaster to a library or infoshop in every town we perform in, to reassure everyone that dreams are never to be limited by income. So please, if you can, help us out by donating money to the tour. If money is something that wont work for you, there are many fundraising ideas we've come up with for you to help us.

How Can I Help to Raise Money?
The benefit show is always a way to make some money for a cause. We suggested this idea to one of the anarchist youth of Idaho, he took the idea and ran with it; organizing a 2 day long festival including music, poetry, a workshop or two, and booths for various local groups. This is also a great way to find other locals who are interested in anarchism that you might otherwise not have seen. Then again, sometimes it can be the same old choir who show up for punk shows.

Bake sales are a fun way to raise money. At a farmers market or film showing, a table of vegan brownies can disappear quite fast. Bake sales are also a fairly spontaneous, and easy way to spend an afternoon. It doesn't really take the time or energy that organizing a benefit show does, but sometimes it can be equally as successful.

Books published by the Crimethinc Workers' Collective are available for a very decent wholesale price. You can sell these books locally at retail price and make a small amount of profit.

We have also published a few projects as exclusive sabatour fundraisers. they are available here. We have made these projects (already extremely affordable) available at a discounted wholesale rate to encourage folks to try and sell them locally.

These are only a few ways you can help us out. There are an infinite amount of ways you can help to raise money; no matter the amount, any donation will go a long way. Essentially, we get a book for every $7.50 raised, which will likely be available for free at a local infoshop or library. Nothing frustrates us more then feeling limited by money, after all our whole objective is to live free from the shackles that capital creates. Though it seems like this project would be severely compromised if we were to obtain the money by any illegitimate means, we appreciate the creative.

Our (Short) List of Demands:

1. a space to perform
We won't have the exact dates for some time, which we understand can make space reservation difficult, however we will hopefully have them fine-tuned by mid-April leaving a good 2 months notice for venues. The space does not need to be anything fancy. In fact, it could very well be a spacious basement minus furniture, or a park with a presentation area. We do not necessarily need electricity, though it would be helpful. A charge is up to you, if you need to cover venue costs, a cover makes sense, otherwise keeping this event free would make it much more powerful.

2. a place for us to crash, and park our vehicles
There will be anywhere from 5 to a dozen saboteurs traveling together at one time and we will likely need a place to crash for the night. Just a simple floor to sleep on will be more then enough. We will be able to provide our own food if it is otherwise unavailable. There will be 2 or 3 vehicles on the tour, and they will need a place to sleep for the night as well.

3. soapboxing footwork
Aside from the standard booking practices, the most important thing for us is a fresh 'audience'. New people to inspire, rather then performing for them, we'd love to help give them the experience of participating. Promotion is of great importance for this tour, hopefully avoiding the usual suspected radicals. Great groups to motivate are: burnt-out anti-bush groups that have lost momentum post-election, Womens' rights groups feeling more and more frusterated with the encroaching patriarchal dictatorship, young kids feeling lost in school at risk of being picked up by fascists or other violent gangs, the possibilities are endless. The last thing we want is to see the same faces we did in Seattle, Quebec City and all the local punk shows.

Every individual situation will be different, of course, and all the specifics can hopefully be worked out via email [riverrat.cwc@gmail.com]. We would like to thank all of the organizers so far for there help in making this tour possible. Hopefully, we will be bring these ideas and dreams to people like the deserve to be introduced. We'll do better then our best, thank you so much.

The Anarchist Cafe is such a beautiful event because it is based on participation. There is no one group of people organizing the whole a-cafe, but individual people who take initiative to bring something to contribute to the event. What skills do you have? The Green Party is not just an electoral political party, but a community of activists working locally to bring about progressive social and political change.
